Investing In and Retaining Top Talent

When retaining high-performing leaders is key to a company’s success, businesses need to put their best foot forward by investing resources, time, and effort in their people.

Kelly Bulger works with businesses on this challenge as a Portfolio HR Director at Volaris Group. Within the portfolio led by Gordon Smith, she supports more than 30 businesses with her knowledge and experience in talent development and management.

Bulger believes the employee experience at Volaris is unique because the decentralized structure of the company helps create a flatter hierarchy, creating more opportunities for leaders to make an impact within the company.

She adds: “I can speak for myself that one of the reasons I joined Volaris is I could see the long-term opportunity to move between organizations, move upward in an organization, and also really have an influential seat at the table. I came from a very large organization where I had an important role, but didn’t necessarily feel like I was very impactful to strategy or that I had a seat at the table with the true decision-makers.”

Her experience at Volaris has been very different from her past roles.

“It was a big draw for me to come to Volaris to know that I could be in an organization where my voice would really be heard.”

Now that Bulger has seen the talent management approach at Volaris from inside the company, she sees opportunity for every employee. From the smallest organization to the largest, she says senior leaders are very approachable, especially at events where they ensure that they can hear from every employee who wants to speak to them.

“I think it makes for an exciting and rewarding experience for employees, and for us to be able to create an interesting career path for our top performers.”
